The appropriate materials for each level

Choosing the best repertoire and technical studies for the student's level is essential for the development of a violinist.

Beginners have the advantage of learning left hand technique beginning in the third position with a rounded fourth finger. From that starting point, the development of vibrato and velocity falls naturally into place.

Intermediate students get a full menu of technical studies, to develop articulation, shifting, vibrato, extensions, double stops, bow strokes, string crossings, etc., and how to combine the many skills into an integrated whole.

Advanced students learn a balanced repertoire encompassing all periods of music, higher techniques, the development of a personal style, as well as preparation for auditions and competitions.
